Hey Stitch Cutie,
This post contains video tutorials you will find helpful as you create your darling Grateful Turkey Mini Quilt. The first video will walk you through creating your applique units. Applique units are useful when working with a lot of individual applique pieces. For example, this Mini Quilt has 63 pieces. Trying to lay each piece down accurately and ironing them into place just once at the end would be difficult and may lead to errors. However, if you create smaller segments, or units, you will find that your finished product is much more accurate and the process is much more enjoyable. Yay!
After you’ve got all of your units stitched, you can check out the video tutorials from Julie where she reviews basic buttonhole stitch techniques. You can choose to stitch your Grateful Turkey with the traditional look of all black threads, or you can match your threads to the individual applique pieces. The choice is yours! What threads do we use? We recommend a 30 wt Sulky Thread in your needle and a 50 wt Sulky Thread in your bobbin. We have thread kits available that do match this and most all of our laser cut kits.
Finally, we have a short video series where Julie shows you how easy it is to create perfect mitered corners on your binding. She will show you how to prep your binding strips, miter your corners and ends with tips for finishing your binding by hand or machine.
As always, if you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to email us. (firstname.lastname@example.org) We are always happy to help!
