Before Julie shows you her favorite tips for starching fabrics, let’s talk about why!
Why do we recommend that you starch your fabric? Hint: it does more than just remove wrinkles. We recommend that you starch your fabric because it adds structure to your 100% cotton quilt fabric which in turn increases the accuracy of your piecing. When you starch your fabric, it becomes more stable and will not stretch or distort when cutting and sewing your quilt blocks.
Before you starch anything you want to remember two things:
- Always starch your fabric BEFORE you cut it.
- Never starch pre-fused, laser cut applique pieces.
Enjoy this video with Julie and Brittany about Starching your Fabric:
First: Spray your fabric with starch until it is completely soaked through.
Second: Allow your fabric to air dry. This can take 30 minutes or more or you can simply let it sit overnight.
Third: Lightly spray more starch on your dried fabric and then iron until completely dry.
Fourth: You are now ready to cut your perfect starched fabric!
