Nesting those seams helps you avoid the dreaded humility block. You know, that one block that just has a big ol “whoops!” in it …
This is one of my all time favorite things to do within the realm of piecing … nesting my seams! It is so satisfying when two blocks fit together just so and it is even more satisfying when I sew my seam and then press it open to find a perfect point!
Just like Julie mentions in the video … use your pins. They are your friend and will ensure your pieces don’t wiggle or “unnest” as you sew.
You also want to think about how your block will be sewn together in advance to make sure your pieces will end up naturally nesting together. Most of the time your pattern will tell you which way to press your seams and therefore you know you will have pieces that are “nestable”.
But what about when a seam is pressed open? Don’t worry … that video comes next for you!
